Italian families are notoriously difficult to resist. ;{) (That is an evil, mustachioed smiley.) (Yes, I realize that emoticons are frowned upon in this book.) And yes, in this post alone I’ve probably committed numerous grave grammar errors which, having read said book, I should now be proof against.

Friends, I’d like to draw your attention to two international cases which need our prayers:

The Romeike family is seeking asylum in the United States in order to homeschool their children in safety - their home country of Germany is notoriously hard on homeschoolers (parents have been denied custody of their children after repeat “Offenses”). Germany’s anti-homeschooling laws are literally Nazi-era legislation. The Romeikes have been here in the USA since 2008, and this week their appeal was denied. They are facing deportation. Even though the petition has expired (after reaching over 100,000 signatures!) you can still add your name. Also, I can say from experience that it doesn’t take more than five minutes to call your senator, congressman, etc, and voice your concerns.

My LJ friends may recall the post I made in February 2012 about Iranian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, sentenced to death in Iran for spreading the Gospel. He was freed in September, praise God! He is still in danger, however, and was arrested for nineteen days in late December-early January. His attorney has been arrested as well.

Now, American pastor Saeed Abedini needs our prayers. His story has received a great deal of attention, so you may know of his persecution already. He has been imprisoned in Iran for 230+ days, has been tortured numerous times, and was in solitary confinement for some time after he and other prisoners wrote a letter requesting better treatment and access to medical care. God is with him through all this. There is a petition you can sign calling for Mr. Abedini’s release, and again, contacting officials is a good idea as well.
